Sisters of Battle Exorcist

It's a tank with missiles, but the codex adds, "More than artillery tanks, Exorcists are mobile shrines to the magnificence of the Emperor that project inspirational battle canticles." I have to look up what canticles means.

Although I'm not a 40K player, I do like to paint some of their more interesting models, like this one.
I followed the box art for the paint scheme pretty closely. It's in the colors of the Our Martyred Lady order.
For the wings at the back, and also the other sculpted icons, I used Vallejo Khaki as a base coat, followed with a wash of Vallejo Skin Wash and then dry-brushed with Vallejo Bonewhite; and little white added to the Bonewhite for the final highlights. Seems to give a nice overall "stone" look.
The tank commander/driver has a set of organ keys to operate it. I think it also controls the firing of the missiles at the back.
The tank on the box art has several decals on the front, but I chose not to add them as I like the more start look of the black contrasting with the gilded parts.
A group shot above with the the Exorcist along with the two Rhinos painted earlier.

Due to non-stop rain last week and today, our landscaping project got delayed. This means my intended game for this Friday will likely also be postponed. I do want to host an Hail Caesar game before the year's out, but I know folks have holiday get togethers, so it may not be able to be. In any case, thanks for stopping by and wishing you all the best as we near the end of 2021.

Sisters Repentia and Arco-Flagellants

These are the last of the figures from the two Sisters of Battle Combat Patrol boxes.

Nice sculpts, but very weird and I had to refer a lot to the box art to figures out how to paint them.
There are 3 poses for the Repentia figures - with some allowing head variations.
The Repentia are still basically in human form, so were painted in normal flesh tones. Although, as with the much stranger Arco-Flagellants, they have some bio-mechanical parts implanted in various parts of their bodies.
The Arco-Flagellants from the Patrol boxes come in only 2 variations, but with some head variation options. They have much more bio-mechanical parts, so their "flesh" was painted in a sort of "undead" tone. I lightened the flesh basecoat and then gave it a dirty, blackish wash.
I'm holding off on hosting more games until we have our backyard landscaping finish - hopefully in under two weeks. Tired of cutting the grass and keeping it from getting moss and weeds. I do have a Sisters of Battle Exorcist to work on though. Until next time, stay in good health and enjoy the hobby!

Sisters of Battle Penitent Engines

Here are the models from the Sisters of Battle Combat Patrol boxes. Per the codex: "The pilots of Penitent Engines are subjected to terrible agony, thanks to the torment amplifiers spliced into their synapses."

The pose of the figure on the right in the above picture was modified a bit by repositioning his right leg and arms. Otherwise, they're both the same model.
I tried to follow the box art - pretty much dry-brushed Vallejo Gunmetal over black - and washed with Vallejo Black Ink. Gold and other details were added - also some of the engine cowling/covering was painted black and given edge highlights.
The picture above makes me think of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
I couldn't find the fluff/background in the codex of how these "pilots" came to be in the engines themselves. The way the box art shows their pants (the only clothing remaining on them) makes them look like they were prisoners. EDIT: Here's what I found for the fluff of these "pilots" - "Many of the souls that are punished in this way may have once been members of the Ecclesiarchy; Imperial Priests who have fallen from the Emperor's grace, or even Battle-Sisters who have failed in their faith or through their mistakes have caused the death of others."
Pictured above is a comparison with a Battle Sister.

Still have the Sisters Repentia and Arco-Flagellants to paint up from the Combat Patrol boxes. On the gaming front, I want to host a Hail Caesar game using the EIR and Celts/Britons painted up last year during the lockdown and still needing some table top time. Until next time, thanks for stopping by and wishing you all the best in health and hobby pursuits.

Junith Eruita - Canonness Superior

She's riding in "The Pulpit of Saint Holline's Basilica."

She is armed with 2 heavy flamers and the "Mace of Castigation." According to the rules, you can only have one of these in an army.
The box art shows lettering in the scrolls with the double-headed eagle, but I didn't want to risk messing it up so left the scrolls plain.
It's a fairly straight-forward paint scheme. The eagle was base-coated with Vallejo Khaki, given a light wash of Vallejo Skin Wash and then dry-brushed with Vallejo Bone White, with a highlight of White mixed with the Bone White. The base and undercarriage was painted black and lightly dry-brushed with gray.
There are many color variations of this model on the internet, but I tried to stay close with the box art for the Order of Our Martyred Lady.
Below is a comparison shot with a Rhino and a Battle Sister on foot.
Next up are the Pentinent Engines, Arco-Flagellants and Sisters Repentia, but have another Black Powder game I need to set up for this Friday. As for painting, I watched a YouTube video on Army Painter Speedpaints - and was thinking those figures would be a good test for it, but see these paints won't be available until next February. Until next time, thanks for stopping by and wishing you all the best in health and hobby pursuits.

Sisters of Battle Rhinos

These are the Rhinos that came with the Combat Patrol boxes (1 each). Painted up as Our Martyred Lady Order.

They come with decals for all the major militant orders - as well as some for scrolls - fiddly to put on, but nice once applied.
The hunter-killer missiles are magnetized so they can be removed and the hatch flipped.
A bunch of optional part are included to bling out the vehicles.
A fun kit to put together and paint up - the edge highlighting took the longest, but I wanted it to match the way the Battle Sisters were painted up.
Here they are with the missiles detached.
On the gaming front, have another Black Powder game this coming Friday - the Battle of Gorodetschna. Finally getting the Russians and Austrians I painted a while ago onto the gaming table. I don't have any Saxons, but will use French and other troops as proxies. My buddy James will be supplying the Austrian artillery as he has a ton of them. Thanks again for stopping by and wishing you all the best.

Sisters of Battle - Order of Our Martyred Lady

Finished the Battle Sisters from the two Combat Patrol boxes. Still need to paint up the two Rhinos and other figures.

This is a Canoness and a couple of Repentia Superiors swinging neural whips - which cause "agonizing pain with every skillful lash."
Seraphim on flying bases.
The stands attach to the bottom of the jet packs.
And the Battle Sisters - two squads of 10, or can be combined into a large unit of 20.
Plan to work on the Rhinos next - as they are black and will be highlighted the same way of the armor worn by the Battle Sisters.

On the gaming front, I plan to host another Black Powder game in a couple of weeks based on the
Battle of Gorodechno. Until next time, wishing you all the best!

Sisters of Battle - Order of Our Martyred Lady - WIP

WIP on a couple of boxes of Adepta Sororitas Combat Patrols. Thought about building either a Space Wolves or White Scars Space Marines army, but saw these going for a great price - one quite a bargain because the box had a damaged corner. Anyway, just finished putting together the figures and Rhinos. One of the Canoneses was left on the sprue as only one will be needed for this army.

Magnetized the heavy weapon on the Rhinos to allow the hatch to be flipped over as an option.
Used most of the extras as bling on the two Rhinos.
Here are a few pictures of the 7" McFarlane Space Marines previously painted. Added some purity seals too.
They're getting some PT while attending DWAS (Deathwatch Assessment and Selection).
Obviously getting smoked during a run as they can't stay in step.
The Blood Angel LT class leader will get them through the course.

Thanks for stopping by for this quick 40K interlude. Wishing you all the best.

McFarlane Black Templar Space Marine - Abhor the Witch.

Sticking with the black armor with bluish-white highlighting like the earlier Order of Our Martyred Lady Sister of Battle, did up this Black Templar.

The edging does look a little too strong - and not the most realistic highlighting; probably should've lightened it up a bit.
The purity seal is another separate piece from ebay. It actually came as a freebie with a weapon order.
A fairly simple paint job, with the Maltese crosses on the pauldrons and helmet being the standouts.
This is likely the last Space Marine in this type of armor I'll paint up. However, I do have several pre-ordered figures in Phobos armor that are supposed to be released in December. I also ordered a couple of of Sisters of Battle Combat Patrol sets - couldn't pass up the discounted price on ebay and Amazon. Plan to paint them up in black armor too.
I'm running out of shelf space for these big figures, but they're kind of fun to paint up. Anyway, thanks again for stopping by and checking out the blog. Oh, and I am playtesting a Black Powder Austrian vs. Bavarian Napoleonic game my buddy James is hosting this Friday. Will post pictures when done. Until next time, best wishes to you all!

Another McFarlane Sister of Battle - Order of the Sacred Rose

Another McFarlane "action figure" that was given a detailing treatment, and a resin head.

The little stand that comes the figures is usually not needed for the bigger footed Space Marines, but the Sister figures are bit more dainty toed.
She may look like one, her name isn't Karen.
I saw blue used as shadowing for white on some GW 'eavy metal painted figures, so gave it a try.
I was initially going to paint this one up as an Argent Shroud Sister in silver, but thought the white was a nicer contrast to the silver edging and gold icons.
Well, thanks again for checking out the blog, and best wishes to you all.

McFarlane Sister of Battle - Order of Our Martyred Lady

Here's another articulated McFarlane "action" figure; this time an Adepta Sororitas Sister of Battle. I added details over the basic pre-paint job.

Not very up on Sisters of Battle, but I think this one is belongs to the Order of Our Martyred Lady - which I ran twenty reds light in her honor.
The figure comes apart for painting, but a little different than the Space Marine figures - which is no surprise as they aren't in power armor.
Added a 3D resin head I picked up from a separately ebay vendor.
Next to a 28mm Chaplain and the previously painted McFarlane Salamander.
Another size comparison with the two McFarlane figures. For the record, I pre-ordered their soon to be released Reiver Space Marine figures wearing Phobos armor. Yeah, I know I'm kind of making technical references way above my pay grade.

Anyway, just a quick update to blog to keep it moving along. Appreciate your stopping by and wishing you all the best in health and hobby pursuits!
