AWI Side Project - Perry, Victrix and Wargames Factory Kit Bash

Just a little WIP shot of some Perry plastic AWI British with Victrix Napoleonic arms/muskets and also Wargames Factory fur capped Grenadier heads. I wanted the figures in more skirmish poses than the marching and trail arms that come in the set. I also thought that Grenadiers "must" be wearing bearskins - even for the Saratoga Campaign.

Along with the Grenadier heads my buddy gave me, there are also some heads with Light Infantry caps (also Wargames Factory). This is a smallish project (at least for now), that will have units of 6 to 12 figures. It does sound like Rebels and Patriots, but I intend to use the Rebellion! Black Powder supplement.

EDITS: Just did up some of the Perry AWI Continentals with Victrix and Perry Napoleonic British arms/muskets. Scraped off the cuff lacing. Left the ends of the wings on the guy with pink arms, as it looks like the fringe on the buckskin coat. I was thinking about removing the musket slings and bayonets - to make them look more irregular. However, the muskets look a bit short without the bayonets.
And some British with Wargames Factory Light Infantry heads.
Also have a Bolt Action Franco Prussian War refresher game in a couple of days. In anticipation for this, I already laid out the board and arranged the figures in units to see how they look. I've actually hosted this game several times in the past, but it was over two years ago - and I'm hosting it again in September at our annual historical convention, Enfilade.
The figures are a mixture of Eagles of Empires, North Star, Perry and also a Mitrailleuse gun and crew by Spencer Smith.  I have enough units for 6 players, but looking forward to the new FPW range the Perry's are releasing. I hope to add some French Cuirassiers when available.
I will post pictures of the FPW Bolt Action refresher game once played. Until then, wishing good health and happy hobby pursuits to you all.

  1. In St. Petersburg, colleagues play in Rebels and Patriots and are very pleased.
I also look at the figures from Peri (Franco Prussian War) with hope, but have not yet chosen the rules.

    1. Thanks for the comment, Alexey. There is also a good following of R&P players here too - as well as the rest of the Mersey rulesets. I like them too, but will see how it goes with Black Powder. As for FPW gaming, I think the rules will depend upon how large a game you want - Black Powder could also work. Kindest regards, Dean

    1. Thanks a lot, Mike. The past FPW Bolt Action games went pretty well - I just need a refresher before hosting it at the convention. It's actually a pretty good participation game as it's fairly simple and fast playing. Warmest regards, Dean

    1. Thanks, Matt. As I don't intend to build large AWI armies, wanted the figures to be in individual, skirmishing poses - for the most part. Warmest regards, Dean

    1. Thanks a lot, Pat! The Perry's are quite hush-hush about their FPW range - just a few announcements on their website and FB page. Hoping to see French Cuirassiers from them soon. Warmest regards, Dean

    1. Thanks, Iain! Yes, love the plastics - funny thing is if I waited, the FPW figures could be plastic too. Oh well, not going to replace them. Although the FPW Zouaves and Tirailleurs are Perry plastics from their ACW range. Kindest regards, Dean

  9. I was surprised to see just how well the parts from different kits / sculptors etc, fit so well together. I will keep an eye open for similar opportunities.

    1. Thanks, Norm! Yes, most of the 28mm plastics go together well - even other ranges like Ancients, etc. Worst case, you can easily cut away stuff and fill with putty or Green Stuff. Kindest regards, Dean

  11. As others have commented, will be interested to se how your conversions look once painted...very nice would be my prediction ! The FPW game looks good...my mate Mark at 1866 and all that blog is hanging out to start collecting the Perry plastics for this war, having previously owned a very large Foundry collection and also being the creator of an unpublished (so far) manuscript on several of the key battles...not that he is obsessed with this war or anything you understand ....!

    1. Thanks, Keith. I do like mixing the various plastics if the result if unique - particularly for skirmish poses. It was quite a surprise seeing the metal Prussian cav already available by Perry. Warmest regards, Dean

    1. Thanks, Scrivs. One thing I'm not sure of is the bayonets and slings on the muskets for the Continentals. I've seen artwork that these weren't used by them as much as by the British. Kindest regards, Dean
