As threatened earlier, here's a group photo of the Celtic/Briton army to date. Mostly Warlord Games and Victrix plastic figures; two metal chariots are from Renegade. I may add few other figures/small units later - possibly druid/fanatics, hunters and villagers; but for now, pretty much done.
I'll likely take a break from Ancients and work on either the Pike & Shot or Fallschirmjager boxes which were picked up from the closing sale a few weeks ago.I'm a bit intrigued with Pike & Shot as I have virtually no knowledge of the period. Until the next post, wishing you all the very best!
WOW! Dean, your Celts are such an impressively colorful group. What more can I say, gorgeous army.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy seeing you tackle pike & shot next.
Thanks for the kind words, Jonathan. Yes, Pike & Shot sounds interesting. Will need to start researching. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteVery cool! 17 century is best of the best %)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ivan! Brand new period for me. Appreciate your inspiring words. Best regards, Dean
DeleteGreat army! What kind of rules do you use for play sword-era wargame?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. As for rules, probably Hail Caesar. Although I have played WAB and Lion Rampant for Ancients and Medievals in the past. Warm regards, Dean
DeleteI also like this rules. Much more than WAB, though I played in WAB before.
DeleteI like the overall mechanics of WAB, probably the single most thing I disliked about WAB was the individual casualty removal. Although I understand how it does affect frontage and combat, etc.
DeleteGreat looking army Dean, always amazed at how quickly you paint!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your kind words, Mike. I used Minwax stain a lot. Warm regards, Dean
DeleteCongrats, they look superb...and ready to fight!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Phil. Kind regards, Dean
DeleteFantastic looking Celtic Army Dean - now you need to start reading up on the ECW - or will it be TYW? your are going to have to buy a few more figures too....
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Keith. Although I lack knowledge of both ECW and TYW, what little I know intrigues me. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteGreat looking Celt army! ECW or 30 years war, still the pike and shot rulebook isn't a bad start,as I know you love plastic, the warlord battalia box is pretty good value and you can pick it up a bit cheaper online plus they often have special offers/sales.
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks again, Iain. Yes, I was just looking at starter armies from Warlord Games. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteMost impressive army
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your kindness, Javier! Best regards, Dean
DeleteThat's looking amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michal. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteOh my word Dean! That is a gorgeous group!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Mike. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteNice Dean, my vote is for Fallschirmjager if that means anything;) Honestly seeing paint on either of the two very different periods will be a treat.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Kevin
Thanks for the vote, Kevin. I had wanted to paint up FJ's as Ramcke Brigade but realized it wasn't the figures in Tropical attire. I actually just ordered the Warlord Games ECW Battalia set off of ebay. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteGreat looking army Dean beautifully tuned out. I have always had a hankering for ECW so interested to see how you find the Pand S figures
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt. I went ahead an "pulled the matchlock" on ECW. Read the Pike and Shot book yesterday - well, actually skimmed the rules (as I'm familiar with Black Powder and Hail Caesar), and read the section on the ECW - also watched "Cromwell" with Richard Harris - for inspiration. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteMy congrats! it's terrific army. And your productivity is very impressive :)))
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dmitry - not sure when they'll go up against the EIR troops - but hopefully soon. Warm regards, Dean
DeleteWhat a splenid looking force!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Nick! Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteThe figures do really look beautiful, Dean!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Ray! Appreciate the visit and kind comments. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteGreat looking force Dean, with loads of option on the table top. Top job on the Chariots so real standout pieces.

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the kind words! Yes, it was quite enjoyable working on these guys. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteImpressive looking collection to be sure Dean!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thank you so much, Christopher. Warm regards, Dean
DeleteWhat a fabulous Celt army Dean - just wonderful. Superb painting and basing and if you haven't tried it I'd recommend Infamy Infamy (Two Fat Lardies rules system) - brilliant skirmish rules - the Ancients version of TFL's Chain of Command (the best WWII rules bar none).
ReplyDeleteRegards, Doc
Mahalo, Doc. I few of the local gamers are playing Infamy, and CoC as well. Aloha, Dean
DeleteAs lovely as the figures are one unit at a time, the combined effect is really over the top! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter. I actually just picked up 3 Warlord chariots today at a local sale. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteAn impressive army indeed.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! Best regards, Dean
