These are the foot figures, less the firelocks, from the Warlord Games Pike & Shotte Battalia box. Painted up in two separate Battalia of Foot - one in red coats for a generic Parliamentarian army and the other as Prince Rupert's Blue Coats.
Basing the guys with leveled pikes took a little bit of consideration, but not too bad.Battalias in hedgehog formation. This has been quite an enjoyable foray into a new period for me. I hadn't considered ECW in the past, but I do have a newfound interest in it. Thanks for dropping by and wishing you all the very best in the hobby and health as well.
You have turned these out really quickly Dean and they look good. How did you find them to paint as this is a project I have planned one day and warlord see a very cost effective way of collecting ECW
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt! I used a production line method - block painted them and then Minwax stained. I did add highlights later as the sculpting is really nice. I kept the clothing to minimal colors - blue and red coats for the two different units - some variation to some of the pants. Keeping the coats in just two colors really helped speed the process - and the Minwax stain really brought out the details. Best wishes on your project! Dean
ReplyDeleteThanks for that, I’m a great believer in stain And shade so it sounds like my technique would work with these figures. I’m not quite ready to start that project but one day perhaps
DeleteGreat looking regiments Dean, I do like a bit of ECW. I'm looking forward to more of your project.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Paul.
Thank you very much, Paul. Yes, previously I had an interest in WotR and thought ECW was just an extension of this - quite wrong was I, of course! Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteGreat looking pike and shot Dean! I've always found levelled pike a pain on the table...
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Mike. Yes, the leveled pikes look cool, but you have to be careful with them. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteThis is an awesome start, Dean! I look forward to seeing any, many more such units parading out from your work desk.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jonathan! Appreciate the kind words of encouragement. Best regards, Dean
DeleteThey're looking great, Dean! easy to spot Rupert's unit with its unusual flag design. I have a pair of new 20 figure ECW units nearly completed as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words, Peter. Yes, that flag design doesn't seem to fit with the rest from the period. Kind of Medieval. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteI'd actually say Rupwert's looks more 20th century, not at all a heraldic design!
DeleteThumbs up Dean, splendid troops!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Phil! Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteHey Dean, the figures look great, as usual.
ReplyDeleteWhat rules are you going to play with?
Thanks a lot,Dave. Right now, plan on Pike and Shotte, but they could be used gor most other rules too. Best regards, Dean
DeleteGreat looking pike and shot units cranked out in no time! Lovely finish and your doing both sides?
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks, Iain. Yes, working on both sides. Although, not sure how big each army will be; probably just two Battalia with 3 or 4 units per army. This is kind of a diversionary project as I wanted to try a new period. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteCrackin looking troops Dean.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Ray! I know this period is one of your specialties. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteGreat looking ECW troops churned out at a very impressive rate of production as always Dean! The ECW is quite a bit different from WotR - its really the foundation of modern democracy in the western world, including your own part of it. If you delve into a few histories of the period, you will find it fascinating I am sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the kind words, Keith! Yes, I was very ignorant regarding the ECW. In fact, yes, I heard on YouTube gamer comment that the AWI (Rebellion) had its roots in the ECW. Until now, most of my "knowledge" on ECW, embarrassingly, was watching Cromwell and Conqueror Worm (Witch Finder General)! Best regards, Dean
DeleteGreat start to a very interesting period Dean. I have a good few of the same figures sitting in their grey undercoat waiting to be painted. Perhaps this will motivate me to start them.
ReplyDeleteCheers Ross
Thanks a lot, Ross! I kept the colors very simple - most of the variation of colors were on the pants. This really sped up the process - staining with Minwax as well. Kind regards, Dean
DeleteThese look fabulous! A great paint job on those. Two great looking regiments ready to fight for the King - hooray :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your visit and kind words! Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteAh! Agree looking awesome Dean!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Michal! Kindest regards, Dean
