Another Local Gaming Store Closing - The Panzer Depot

The best historical gaming store in our local area, The Panzer Depot, is unfortunately going out of business. The owner, John, and a former paratrooper with the 82nd, announced this yesterday on the Northwest Historical Miniatures Gaming Society Facebook. Sadly, he mentioned times were getting tough and the whole Covid situation was the final nail in the proverbial coffin. He also said all products were 20-60% off. I figured it was the best of a bad situation for him and stopped by to do my part. I managed to pick up a few things that I wanted, and a few things that were too good to pass up.
The WAB Hannibal and FOG books were a $1 each. For the record, I've never played FOG, but got the book for the fluff and illustrations. I also got the last two Renegade Celtic Chariots. They look like a good size match for the Victrix ones. Also,  got the last pack of Warlord Games Celtic Slingers and Crusader Irish Slingers. I wanted these to add to the Celtic army.

Anyway, I wish the best to John and did my small part to reduce his inventory.

  1. This is sad to see. Were there other Renegade figures available for sale?

    1. Yes, really sad as John not only carried a great selection of historical stuff. But hosted games there regularly. As far as Renegade figures, a bunch of Medieval Chinese and various Ancients, IIRC. They were in the storeroom for 60% off. He had lot of Crusader Miniatures and Front Rank Napoleonics too. He said he'll be having the sale through Labor Day. Best, Dean

  2. Good acquisitions. Hannibal is a real rarity, as are the Renegade miniatures sets. In fact, it is sad when such stores are closed 8(

    1. Yes, I was surprised to see all the Renegade. He actually had a box of about 10 copies of the Hannibal book. Interestingly, I sold my copy of Hannibal years ago,so picking up a pristine copy again for a dollar was amazing. Warm regards, Dean

    1. Yes, he was the only local store that carried a multitude of 28mm historical figures. All the other remaining stores are mostly RPG and card game types. Best regards, Dean

  6. Sad news with the store. I hope, that with those bargains he will reduce the stock to 0.

  9. :( Sad news. We have the same problem in Saint Petersburg. One club temporary closed and one local store closed in June.

    1. Yes, Vasiliy. I suppose mail-order/online sales isn't a viable option for them. In the case here, he also would host a lot of historical games - all the popular and new/current ones - so good for the community in that regards too. Best, Dean

  10. Sad to see another company go. I never even heard of Panzer depot before this post. I remember American Eagles and Games Matrix, but that is about it for historicals on the west side.

    1. It's up in Kirkland, so not in the Tacoma area. About an hour drive north of Tacoma.

    2. I should mention the Game Matrix is still open. However, sadly Chris Ewick, the original owner, passed away unexpectedly from cancer about a year ago. He was only in his early 40's too.
