Perry Dragoons - WIP + 1

Riders are done; save their scabbards and muskets. Will work on their mounts next.
They're painted for Peninsular scenarios with Spanish cloth for the line troopers. The officer is well-off enough to have retained a coat of green, as well as providing his musician with a coat in the usual reverse colors.

P.S. I saw a post on TMP about this new way Blogger is posting images (as a slide show) - I don't like it either & hope they go back to the regular way of viewing images.

  1. Lovely work! Interesting use of colours; I'd never have thought of using brown. I've only ever used variations on infantry over-pants.

Apparently the 2nd Hussars (who wore brown)used to say that all other hussar regiments really wanted to join the 2nd as most other regiments were forced to use brown cloth for replacement uniforms while serving in Spain!

  6. Thank you all very much for the great comments. I have to admit the color choice was my buddy's. At first, I thought "...but green is so nice." I see now it is a good choice. Hope to have the horses done today - plan to use the dip on them. Best, Dean

  7. They look great, pity about brown being correct. My dragoons are going to stick with the regulation colors, so they can be used for non-Peninsular situations as well.

  8. Very good work; I have a box of these guys that will be receiving the black paont coat probably next week (still engaged with some artillery pieces). I have one question about the officer and the bearskin: I thought only the elite squadrons wore the bearskin; officers of center companies wore the brass helmet although with the leopard felt (instead of the brown flat felt of the rank & file).

  9. AI: Good question; your assessment is correct. However, that said, this is a project for a gaming buddy - who had already assembled the figures and wished the officer to have the bearskin. I did manage to talk him into painting the officer's coat in green, though. Best, Dean
