Langton 1/1200th & Valiant 1/900th Ancient Ships - WIP

Finally got around to putting these fine models together - without tweezers too! The top row are Langton 1/1200th models - left to right, trireme, quinquereme w/furled sail and quinquereme full sail. The curved part of the stern for one of the quins was missing, so I fashioned one out of an old credit card. The bottom two rows are Valiant 1/900th pentekonters; but will be used as liburnians. The bases for the Valiant ships was made from plastic styrene and textured acrylic caulking.

  1. I like these models a lot. I'm a big fan on the Langton 1/1200 Napoleonic ships and have always wondered about their ancients range - I shall watch your progress with great interest.

  2. Nice work on the scratch built bases. The prow was missing? The prow is the front of a ship (pardon the nit, I go way back with boats).

  3. Thanks, Gents.

NCC1717: Oops! Thanks for that - that's what I get for posting half-asleep and not knowing my way around a ship/boat. That fabricated part would be the "curved thingee" at the stern. Oh, I just saw your post on your blog with Valiant and Navwar Ancients. And yes, you definitely know your naval stuff. Best, Dean

  4. I like the ships. Are you still planning on using the Roman Seas rules? When are you going to run a game?

  5. Thanks, Deave. Hopefully Adrian & I can host a RS game sometime next month. Still won't have enough "real" ships, but I can print out some of the counters that came with the rules. Eric said they're about 1/1200th scale. Won't be as nice as real 3D stuff, but we can get more familiar with the rules. Adrian & I playtested the rules sometime ago & liked them. In fact, that's when I decided to go with 1/1200th instead of the 1/300th ships. Will keep you posted. Best, Dean

  6. Nice work

Were the Langton ships expensive? I have a few Navwar equivalents and wondered if I could (or was it worth it to) upgrade to Langton

  7. I got my three Langton from a local gaming buddy for a fraction of what they would normally go for; I even picked up the Valiant ones one the cheap a the last local convention. I'm not sure if the investment would be worthwhile to rebuild your entire fleet - maybe just add a few to round them out. In fact, I'll likely build up my fleet with Navwar models. Best, Dean
