Here they are with a stain of Minwax over basic block painting.
I used a white undercoat as most of them are in linothorax. I like how the stain helped define parts of the armor, especially the pteruges.Awaiting the arrival of shield transfers from Battle Flag. Thanks for stopping by and wishing you all the best.
They look fantastic Dean, hope to see them in action one day. Best wishes to you and your family .. Stay safe!

DeleteI love that minis and with pleasure will see your beautiful painting!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Michal. Honestly, these depend a lot on the Minwax staining for details to pop. But it works find with rank and file figures like these. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteThe stain has indeed proven to be 'magic' on these figures, they are lovely. I do admire your output.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, Norm. Yes, the stain really does a good deal of the work. I would be nowhere near this stage if I were painting them in a more traditional way. Warm regards, Dean

ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt! I'm heavily dependent on a can of Minwax stain! :) Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteThey look pretty impressive.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Christopher! Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteThey look really good! I wish I could get Minwax where I live
ReplyDeleteThanks, Javier! I think you might find a similar local product where you are; it's an acrylic wood stain. The key is the correct shade - the shade that seems to work best is a fairly dark black-brownish one. The Minwax one is called "Tudor Satin." Alternatively, Army Painter Quick Shades Strong Tone is supposedly close to this product too - only a bit more expensive. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteI know Army Painter but don't like it as it's too thick and non-water based. I tried also to look for something similar to Tudor here but without success. I'm currently using water based betumen of Judea. Cheers,
DeleteAh, I see. You've certainly done your research and testing. Best regards, Dean
DeleteI think the Minwax product is polyurethane, isn't it, as opposed to acrylic?
DeleteBeautiful work Dean!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Ray. So far, so good. Regards, Dean
DeleteComing along nicely!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Nick! Yes, getting there. Hope their shield decals arrive soon. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteMy congratulations for starting a new project! Great beginning as always!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Vladimir! Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteIt is hard to say which is more impressive- the results or the speed, Dean!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Peter! Warm regards, Dean
