McFarlane Blood Angels Lieutenant

I basically just added highlights and details to this pre-painted figure. Went over the red with a stain and added the usual GW-style highlighted edges on the armor. Also gave the gold areas a wash and then highlights. .

The power sword is the only thing that required any actual painting - my second attempt at a power sword. Not completely happy with it (nor the earlier one on the Imperial Fist guy); still trying to figure out the process. I don't think painting these by brush can looks as good as airbrushed ones.
I do like the overall look of the figure with all the extra "bling" for the Lieutenant. The lore has these guys ever-ready to take over if the CO goes berserk with rage. I am getting a kick out of learning 40K lore.
On the gaming scene, I did get in a refresher Bolt Action Franco-Prussian War game yesterday thanks to a couple of buddies. One of whom returned from Afghanistan as a contractor back in May on leave, and was told not to come back. Finally, thoughts and prayers to the real Marines, Army Paratrooper and Navy Corpsman who we recently lost over there. Until next time, best wishes to you all and thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks, Jonathan. Yes, my buddy is retired infantry colonel and had an idea of what was going to happen when he went on leave. About $2K of his personal stuff got left behind and probably in Taliban hands now. Kindest regards, Dean

    1. Thank you very much, Mario! I'm still trying to figure out the power sword approach. Lots of YouTube tutorials. It's sort of like the NMM method, which I'm clueless about. Kindest regards, Dean

  6. Nice work on these larger figures Dean, we all need a butterfly distraction now and then! Like Jonathan, I am glad your friend went on leave at the right time, although they/we seem to have got all our nationals out, its just thousands of interpreters etc who have been left in the lurch - but I think a lot of people always knew this was going to be the eventual outcome, although it was a surprise how quickly everything collapsed and the Taliban took over again - lets hope they maybe really are Taliban V2.1 and only kill a few hundred high level "collaborators" rather than thousands as feared. They could have a few more worldly heads in charge, who would prefer to create a long term viable Islamic state that wont be at constant risk of attack from the West or the Russians....time will tell I guess.

    1. Thanks for the kind words and sentiment, Keith. The crazy thing is all the weapons/military gear that was left. They have access to more ammo than a lot of US citizens can get here at home. Warmest regards, Dean

  9. Power sword looks damn good to me. My boy, who plays SM, has one of these (or maybe the first, non LT one?), but did him up as a Salamander. They're kind of neat.
