Warlord Games Ancient British Warriors - WIP

Victrix heads from the Armoured Gallic Warriors set have been added to most of them. Also some of the spare Victrix standards and horns were used too. They were block painted in basic earthy tones and then some simple designs in contrasting color were added; finally stained with Minwax.
Prior to the staining. Started with four base colors - grayish blue, brownish red, pale green and off white. I only painted the designs on either the trousers or shirts; this not only was simpler, but also didn't make the figure look too "busy."
Also applied the decals to the shields that came with the set. Metal shields are also included; some of them representing iconic ones, like the Battersea shield.
Gotta admit, my left shoulder blade is giving me trouble, but I pushed on to get this far as I wanted to see this project through. Interestingly, this project started with me placing an order from Victrix for their EIR infantry - just shy of a month ago, and they still haven't shipped them. Last I was told was they were being restocked and was hoping to have them shipped this week. I'll have to send an email to them to see what the status is. I have a lot of plastic to keep me busy until them anyway. Best to you all and hope you're all safe and healthy.

  2. Lovely and of course yet to be transformed by the shields being added. I had a tough job getting my decals done ... is it just me?

Sympathise with your shoulder - both debilitating and painful, mine was resolved with surgery some years ago as a last resort after other things were tried and failed.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Norm. I am being scheduled for physical therapy for the first time in my life. We'll see how that goes. I may see an acupuncturist once things get opened up again. Warmest regards, Dean

    2. Oh, forgot to mention that I used a decal softener to get the decals to seat properly.

    1. Thanks a lot Matt. I kept the patterns simple and found dabbing a contrasting color where the stripes cross helped the overall look. Kind regards, Dean

  9. Nicely done Dean!

Take care of that shoulder blade. I ended up having keyhole surgery in mine a couple of years ago and rehab was far from easy!

  10. Dean you hardcore “son of a” Michael Angelo you (Ha! Thought I was going somewhere else with that didn’t yeah;)).

There has to be some sort of purple heat award for driving through the pain to paint toy soldiers. Nicely done sir, but don’t push to hard, do shorter painting sessions.

And while I am at it, giving you unwanted advice and all, paint some Samurai. You do such lovely work on the subject and it’s been awhile;)

    Cheers mate

    2. Kevin, as always, your visits and thoughtful comments are very much appreciated. Yes, it's pretty much a love-hate thing with painting. I know it aggravates the condition, but I feel compelled to do it. Kindest regards, Dean

    1. Thanks, Peter. My wife had the same issues several years ago, after numerous attempts at physical therapy, they finally gave her shots of steroids and cortisone (I think), and she's been fine since. At the time, I thought, "sheez, why do folks have physical issues..." and now look who's got em. Best regards, Dean
