Perry French Horse Artillery - Based

Just a quick update with the French Horse Artillery based with guns completed.
I'll have to read up on the rules for the howitzer - never used them in Black Powder before.
For the La Haye Sainte scenario, I plan to have them come on board after turn 3. In the actual battle, they didn't fire into the farm house. A battery was brought up after the farm was taken, but the 95th Rifles in the sandpit took out the crew.
Well, these was the last of my most-recent Perry order. I may have to peruse their catalog for more stuff as it looks like I'll be staying close to home a lot until the current pestilence is over.
Thank you all very much for your continued interest in the blog posts, and wishing you all healthy and happy gaming and painting.

  6. Fabulous Dean, beautiful job on those, keep up the great work.

In the Grand Manner you can fire over hills and defensive positions with them, set buildings on fire etc but the shorter range makes them vulnerable to counter battery fire and cavalry.

  8. Great looking guns and crews, Dean. Most of the rules I have used for decades just factor the howitzers into the batteries (they were 1/ to 1/3 of the guns in most nations artillery companies. The first Napoleonic rules we used, Frappe, had a hexed board, and a 7 hex "grand hex" was placed over the target, and dice were thrown to determine which hex the shot landed in, and then whether the shell was a ground burst, air burst, or a dud! Fun if awfully granular!

    1. Thank you very much, Pete. Appreciate the great background on the use of howitzers in the rules you used too. I've used indirect fire in Bolt Action, so kind of got the feel for it. Kindest regards, Dean

  15. Howzit Dean? The Horse Arty are just superb mate - up to your usual stellar standard! Our group tried BP2 recently but weren't impressed but have had a ball with General d'Armee and the Fire and Fury Revolutionary Wars version 'Suvarov'. Stay safe and continue to paint up a storm!

    1. Mahalo's Doc. For sure, BP has a certain "flavor" that doesn't appeal to everyone. In fact, BP here only has a small handful of adherents. Me, I'm okay with it mainly for its simplicity. In fact, I'm trying to use them for smaller, skirmish-type kind of games. I've already adopted the 2/3rds movement and firing ranges. Warmest Aloha, Dean
