Warlord Games Prussian Landwehr

 

These are supposed to be with the  4th Silesian Landwehr Regiment. Not sure if they wore the stovepipe shakos, but added a few for variety. 

Picked this box up mainly for the flags to use with a box of Wargames Atlantic Prussian Reservists, but these figures are pretty nice. They're a bit different from the Warlord set I painted up back in 2013. These have separate heads and come with just two metal command figures - a drummer and officer. The older set came with a flag bearer; I went ahead and clipped off the musket from one of the figures and added a flag pole (plastic broom bristle).

The Wargames Atlantic Prussian Reservists shouuld be arriving in the mail today. They should be a quick job as I plan to spray them gray for the basic uniform - and then a Minwax stain after the other stuff is block painted.

Perry Polish Infantry Skirmishers

Painted up as Grenadiers and Voltigeurs of the 4th and 8th Regiments.

Worked on these while awaiting the order for the command sprue and some other stuff, which I just got notified today as being shipped. Interestingly, it was sitting there for over a week, and I just placed another order for some Prussians last night - which also shipped today. I also picked up a box each of Wargames Atlantic Prussian Reservists and the old Wargames Factory Landwehr from ebay. The recent Perrry order included commands for the Reservists. Wasn't going to start on Prussians, but couldn't pass up the Wargames Atlantic set which has 60 figures for 50 cents each. Wanted the Landwehr set as it was also cheap, and comes with a bunch of flags.

The plastic for these Perry figures seem quite durable - I banged around their bayonets a few times accidentally while painting, and they were none the worse. They should hold up well enouch for a few skirmish games.

Guess I'm on a Napoleonic binge again. Still haven't gotten back to the Imjin War project I was set to play test before my gall bladder attack several months ago. I'm thinking of running it at next year's Enfilade, so will likely have to get back to it sometime in the near future. Wishing you all the best this holiday season!

Perry Duchy of Warsaw 4th Infantry - WIP

These are actually done, but not sure when command sprue will arrive to complete the unit. I got an immediate confirmation and "Processing" for my order last week, but no update on shipping yet.

As mentioned previously, I used the left over figures from the Polish set along with a few from the French 1807-14 set. The French look very similar to the Polish figures, and only needed a little bit of modifying. Among the modifications was clipping off the long coat tails, bayonet scabbards from their right hip, and center straps on the greatcoat roll. Also, smoothing the area below the cross straps for their closed lapels, and also gluing on bayonet scabbards next to their canteens. Sounds like a lot, but these were all fairly simple and quick to do. I used sections of bayonets from spare arms for the scabbards.

Guess the skirmshers can be worked on while awaiting the Perry order. Wishing you all the best this holiday season!

Christmas Rampant 2024

Just got back from another great Christmas (Dragon) Rampant game day at Bruce (Company B) Meyer's place in Gig Harbor. Used a smallish warband with reduced-model units as there was supposed to be a lot of folks. In actuality, we only had about 17 show up, out of the 20-plus folks who had initially signed up. My Elite Santa did well early on by destroying an enemy unit, but later got destroyed after failing a Morale test. My unit of Bellicose Elves never got into action enough, failing consequetive activations - and eventually getting destroyed by numerous Power Bolt hits. Here are a few photos from the game.

Nice little break from working on another unit of Polish infantry. These will be for the 4th Regiment with yellow lapels. Awaiting the arrival of a command sprue to complete the unit.

Perry Duchy of Warsaw 8th Infantry Regiment

These are painted with their initial crimson facings and lapels, prior to 1810 when all regiments were supposed to have white lapels.

Painted them with dark blue trousers to set them off from the earlier French infantry.

The figures are very similar to their French 1807-14 Infantry set - particularly the marching poses and most of the equipment. In fact, I converted a few spares from the French set to add to the left over figures from this set to form another 24-man unit. This next unit will represent the 4th Regiment in yellow facings, again prior to the 1810 regulation. Just needed to order a command sprue from Perry to finish it up.

The drummer and sapper have particularly colorful uniforms.

The equipment is slightly different than the French set. The greatcoat rolls have only 2 straps, unlike the French having 3 straps. Also, the fusiliers have their bayonet scabbards hanging off a separate cross strap opposite the ammo pouch. The French fusiliers have their bayonet scabbards hanging off the same strap as the ammo pouch. Otherwise, very similar looking.

Well so much for now - have a Christmas Dragon Rampant game to attend this Saturday. I'm taking my reduced-model warband consisting of only 4 total figures. This will be good as there's supposed to be about 20 of us, and the table will likely be very crowded. Until then, wishing you all the best this holiday season!

Perry Napoleonic French Infantry (1807-14 and 1812-15)

Finished basing the two sets of Perry plastic French infantry.

The two sets look fine next to each other - keeping the figures in separate units. Although, I did have to use a single 1807-14 figure on the command base of the other set as I was short one without greatcoat. He's behind the flag bearer, next to the drummer - noticeably from the back having longer coat tails.

I used the 1812 pattern flag on both units. The earlier pattern that came with the 1807-14 set seems a bit too small.

Here they are on movement trays in Attack Column formation (according to the Perry leaflet).

Comparison below of plastic French Infantry - left to right: Warlord Games (Peninsula set), Perry 1807-14, Victrix, Perry 1812-15. The Warlord guys appear the biggest (mainly their shakos/heads), the Perry 1812-15 the smallest/shortest (not really discernable). The Perry 1807-14 figures match up well with Victrix - they're both somewhat slender. All except the 1812-15 Perrys are in the earlier longer tailed coat. As far as I know, the Perrys are the only ones with plastic French Infantry in Bardin regulation coats (closed labels).

Perry Napoleonic French Infantry (1807-14 and 1812-15) - WIP

Started on the two sets of plastic French Infantry. Both sets are very nice, and look good together in separate units. They would look good for the the 1812 Russian Campaign. That said, I wish the 1812-15 set had more figures without greatcoats on, as well as more with uncovered shakos.

Finished the uniform coat and shakos. Flesh, trousers, coat rolls, canteens, and muskets are next. Command figures will get individual details.

Perry Napoleonic French Skirmishers

Here they are ready for the gaming table - skirmishers from the two sets of Napoleonic Infantry. 

I clipped off the longer coat tails from the 1807-14 set.

The figures from the 1807-14 set are a bit more slender than the earlier released 1812-15 set, but still mix in well together.

Along with earlier painted figures, these will be more than enough for multi-player skirmish games. Next up are the Line Infantry figures in marching poses - which should make painting them in more of a simpler production-line method. I also picked up a box of the Perrys' recently released Duchy of Warshaw Infantry. It was ebay at a good price, so couldn't pass it up.

Perry Napoleonic French Skirmishers - WIP

Finally started on the Perry French infantry. Working on the skirmishers first. These will be Light Infantry Voltigeurs and Carabiniers. They're a mixture of the 1807-14 and 1812-15 sets.

Museum of Flight Game Day - Bushy Run One Hour Skirmish Wargames

Just got back from another great annual game day at the Boeing Museum of Flight. Looking back at my earlier posts, I've been going to this event since 2009 - I skipped a couple years in between, but made most of them. Anyway, a great way to hang out with old friends in a wonderful venue - not to mention out of the rainy Pacific NW weather. There were four games in the morning period, and four games in the afternoon - my Bushy Run game being in the latter period. 

Our gaming group used to be located directly below the Blackbird, but for some reason we were bumped from the area now occupied by scale modellers. We're located to the right of the plane now - to be honest, it was kind of dark under the plane and the new area is a lot brighter.

Here are shots of my game. There were six players total; three each for the British and Indians. The British managed to get their three pack horses, along with several troops, off the table for a minor victory. The Indians for their part managed to kill off a unit of Highlanders - thus making the outcome a bit of a draw. All the players, some of whom played the rules for the first time, all said they had a good time and enjoyed the game.

Start of the game with Rangers and 60th Lights leading the column; 42nd Highland Grenadiers behind them, and 77th Highlanders bringing up the rear. The 77th took most of the casualties - mainly from hand to hand fighting.

The Indians had the fast movement trait increasing their basic move to 9" instead of the usual 6".

The Indians and the Grenadiers both had the Bruiser trait which made them deadly in hand to hand.

Early in the game, with Indians moving into the woods. EDIT: I just noticed how crappy these draw cards were.

60th Lights and Rangers making good progress along the trail, but taking a few hits from musket fire.

This game was used with adjustable flight stands on rollers.

Again, all in all a great way to support and enjoy the hobby. I plan to run a Peninsular skirmish game using One Hour Skirmish rules next. Until next time, wishing you all the best.
