I downloaded some nice flags from Warflag.com. The flag poles are brass rod with Old Glory spear heads attached.
I added some highlights to the green coats - hoping to make the arms looks fuller.
I also downloaded colors for the Front Rank Pavlov Grenadiers. Here they are next to the Connoisseur guys. A good match in size, if not sculpturing.
Errata: The standard bearer figure with the white flag is an Elite figure; thanks for the info Chris!
Great painting Dean, keep up the great work!!
ReplyDeleteThey've based up nicely mate, top stuff.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that your using on your bases? I cant pick it but I'm liking how they look.
Nate
Great looking units Dean.
ReplyDeleteWow! They look wonderful, a great looking unit.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved the massed effect of Russians, it must be the green! Beautiful work Dean.....
ReplyDeleteVery nice painting Dean. I must admit that the figs are not the best sculpts, but the overall effect is good. I don't know if I would ever drop any money on these figs, but you paid the right price for them...FREE!
ReplyDeleteWonderful work Dean. Very impressive sight.
ReplyDeleteNice painting job!! I admire your dedication to painting Napoleonics.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Thanks a lot everyone for the kind comments! I truly appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteNate:
The Litko 3mm plywood bases are covered with acrylic latex caulking; I spread the thing on the bases and then squished the figures onto it. The figures seem to hold fast to the caulking pretty good.
Thanks again, Dean
Very dynamic and well painted unit. And 32 is a good number too!
ReplyDeleteThey rangs look surprisingly tight eventho I guess you base with a 20mm frontage per miniatur.
By most measures the more recent Front Rank figures are 'better' than the old Connoisseur figure. However, give me the Connoisseur any day. I find that Front rank are far too overfed - good durable wargame figures with nice detail, but they don't have any movement. The newer FR sculpts are a little less bulky. Anyway, I am a Connoisseur/Elite fanboy and am glad to see you have these models in your collection. BTW, the one standard bearer is Elite.
ReplyDeleteChris
Great work, the "mass effect" is impressive.
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Gentlemen:
ReplyDeleteChris: Thanks for the info on the Elite guy - he did look diffrently sculpted. Now that I think about it - he was one guy with buttons sculpted/molded on his coat.
Best, Dean
Not a fan of the Connoisseur figures but am a big fan of your painting! Under your skilled hand even very average figures 'pop'! They look great. Have you seen the Perry's ones planned - plastic Grenadiers that look amazing. The Victrix (metal) Russians are also superb. [sigh] We are so spoiled for choice nowadays!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Doc
They just look great!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks again for the kind comments, Gents.
ReplyDeleteDoc: I have seen those Perry plastic Russians. I will likely get a couple boxes.
Best, Dean
Simple and effective! I'm going to give that a try on my 15mm Crusade bases when I've finished painting them. Thanks for the info Dean.

ReplyDeleteI like how it takes paint well - easy to dry-brush highlights. You can always add more stuff to it too - like sand; and static grass, of course :)
Best, Dean
Wow the old connoisseur still have it, they look fantastic in mass
ReplyDeleteVery nice looking unit. I continue to be amazed at your combination of speed and quality
