Couldn't resist working on these guys before the weekend. I sprayed them with Krylon Mettalic Silver as a basecoat (thanks to a tip from James B's blog; then gave them a basic block paint job; although the Centurions' capes were given some highlights. They were then given the Miniwax Tudor Satin treatment - brushed on. Finally they were just given a coat of Krylon Matte - I didn't use Testors Dullcote, as I didn't want the armor dulled too much. Krylon Matte actually gives a more satin finish. Here they are, minus the musicians, standards, and the few still waiting on missing helmets.
This is what they looked like prior to the Miniwax treatment - they reminded me of what my Airfix guys used to look like when I first started the hobby.
The bases will be flocked next. Also, waiting on some blue shield decals to arrive before starting on the shields. I'm thinking these may be perfect for Saga - I understand you don't need large amounts of figures.
They look nice for a quick paintjob. I must keep that in mind when I'm on for such a challenge myself.

Thanks so much for the comments, Gents. Funny how this foray into EIR was more or less a fluke - two boxes of these for gluing together some Victrix figures for a buddy. Now I'm tempted to get the Veteran box. No rush though. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteThe troops look great, the silver undercoat really works well!!
ReplyDeleteCracking!!! They look great...
ReplyDeleteYou´ll definately have to get the veterans box...
Cheers

Thanks again, Gents!

Best, Dean
Dean, you are a painting beast! :-)
ReplyDeleteThese guys look great, well done.
Helen
I like the idea of painting them silver and SAGA can be played with about 30 figures i believe.
ReplyDeleteHehehe; Thanks, Helen.
ReplyDeleteAL: I most certainly want to try out Saga with these guys.
Best, Dean
Great work Dean; that Minwax has come out very well on these chaps! Amazing before and after photos.
ReplyDeleteExcellent painting job Dean. Impressed with the change in the two photos.
ReplyDeleteLooking good,Dean...silver is kind of different, but hey it works.
ReplyDeleteVery good Dean, given these really do your dipping technique credit.
