Terrain Cloth - or JoAnn's Revisted

As the greenish cloth I have is only 8 X 5', and the material was catching the wooden stands, I figured I'd take a look at what JoAnn's had to offer (again). I picked up a nice mottled fleece for only about $6.00 a yard. I now have a 12 X 5' terrain cloth. It's light, yet has enough depth to it for a nice feel. Being 100% polyester, the wooden stands now can be slid without catching (or worse, breaking off bayonets).
I can add some green patches here and there, but I'll wait for a warm, sunny day to do this. I went ahead and placed the figures back on for the Black Powder game. EDIT: I've decided against doing this and will add patches of fur here and there for grass - my next terrain project - stay tuned ;)!
I'll add some terrain in the center areas to block LOS.

  1. Looks like a nice mat. I may have to get one myself.

  2. Is this the Blizzard Fleece Fabric, Khaki Tie Die?

  3. The colouring looks great in the photographs; would it work to actually put things under it to raise the profile. I only ask as the Tie dye effect looks a little like rock strata.

  4. That's really rather cool.

Once again, I'm now vacillating about what kind of terrain I want to go with at home - do I go for 1x1 or 2x2 tiles, cloth + laid-out scenery bits, or what?

    Help!

  5. I like the pattern...would make nice curtains :-D
it´s got a good colour...I´d be tempted to leave it as it is...and add stuff that can be removed afterwards

  6. Thanks for the comments! Sounds encouraging - I picked the right one.

Michael: I think raising it would work fine - the pattern is very irregular and would look like outcropings.

Paul: I thought the same thing after reflecting on it a bit. In fact, I may try out using some fur pieces - I've seen how they can be clipped and painted to look like convincing grass, etc. I may just put these pieces here and there on the cloth.

    Best to all, Dean

  7. I think I'll follow suit and pick one up myself. I like the dry summer grass look. Much better than the old, woolen army blankets I use.

  9. Thats a good idea doing this, I would imagine a fair bit cheaper than the GW game cloth I purchased. I will look into this in the future for perhaps both land battles and Sea battles(in blue) as well.

    Cheers
