Karl Franz on Deathclaw

Here's the Emperor Karl Franz on his loyal griffon, Deathclaw -
The Emperor is wielding the legendary war hammer Ghal Maraz = any hits auto wound with no armor saves!
In the version below, the rider becomes an Empire General armed with a Runefang forged by Alaric the Mad - again all hits auto wound with no armor save!
The red and white shield on the crest declare the general from Talabheim.
The next two images show a two-headed griffon with a wizards crest on the chest plate.
Here are the interchangeable parts for the model. Magnets have been put to good use. The wizard and general with lance still need to be painted. I actually still need to paint the wizards/acolytes for the War Altar and Hurricanum/Luminark too.

  1. Lovely work there Dean, the magnet idea has a lot of legs. Would they be strong enough to hold howdahs on Aventine elephants do you think?

    Regards HGA.

  2. Thanks, HGA. As far as the howdahs, I'm pretty sure the larger ones would do well - they're very strong; plus the howdahs basically sit on the backs of the elies. Something horizontal like the these wings would be tough if made out of lead. Since this kit is plastic, the magnets work very well. Best, Dean

  7. Wow - that's an intricate model and it's beautifully done - I suspect the magnets also aid in transport.

I've never seen a warhammer fantasy battle in person - it must be an impressive sight with models like this

  8. Excellent stuff Dean, the magnets are a cool idea.

I did have a little chuckle to myself though... This beastie is so awesome, if it landed in front of me, the last thing on my mind would be worrying some chap waving his hammer about! ;-)

  11. Thank you all for the kind words and interest. The magnets definitely are of use to break down the rather large model for transport.

    Warm regards, Dean

  12. Dean, sorry to pester. You use satin or gloss on the tudor?

BTW, the model is freakin' AWESOME.

  13. Stunning beastie! I don't know how you do it Dean! A model like this would take anyone else months to do. And you do it beautifully with all options (and magnets) in days!

I can't wait to see an AAR with your Empire forces.

  14. Thanks again for the kind words, Michael & Monty.

Michael: Satin - but still finish with something like Dullcote when the stain is completely dried/cured (at least overnight).

Monty - in just a few weeks I should be getting in a practice game or two with my buddies.

    Best, Dean
