This Ain't Sparta...

But I picked up a nice Corinthian helmet off of ebay for $35.00 - about $50.00 total with shipping. I submitted a "Best Offer" as it has a small dent on the top right of the helmet (as you're wearing it). Looks like battle damage and adds to the flavor, I think.

Here's the little dimple damage - barely perceptible; and I plan to add a transverse crest which will disguise it even more. I'll also add some padding inside the helmet for a better fit and comfort while battling Persians and such.

  5. If you attach a light and a magnifying glass it would be the perfect painting accessory!

My sister made me a whole hoplite panoply from cardboard and papier mache for my 11th birthday (a looong time ago!), so I'm rather jealous of you right now! :-)

  6. I'm glad you guys like the headgear!

Rosbif: I used to make armor out of cardboard too when I was about that age - or even a bit younger. It was close to what I now see how they make lino thorax cuirasses. I never had a cool helmet though. I did make a facsimile out of papier-mâché - put the wet strips of newspaper over a large balloon. After it dried, I cut out the eyes and left a nasal. Painted it gold and varnish. It looked pretty good, but never managed to get a crest on it. Best, Dean

  7. Very nice, will we be going naked like a Spartan as well?

  8. Great and looking forward to seeing it with the crest! Will you do one colour or mix colours?

  9. Thanks again fellow citizen-Hoplites.

Angry: I'm way too modest - more like that Spartan statuette wrapped in a full-length cloak.

    Christopher:

I'm thinking of one with alternating black, white and red - or maybe just black and white.

    Best, Dean

  12. Dean You'll never again be able to raise your eyebrows when your missus comes home with another pair of shoes, handbag etc.
But as I always remind mine, you never know when these things may come in handy.
    Regards HGA.

  14. Niiice! I have one of these in a dark bronze (almost black) tone that I use for putting my stereo headphones on. It always gets lots of comments. (BTW For what its worth I'd go with the black and white crest.)

  15. Are you going to wear it when we do the Ancient Greek campaign? All I have is an old steel pot airborne helmet... that wont work to well.

  16. As a wargaming enthusiast, I look at Dean and say to myself and say, "Now that is a dedicated gamer!"

As a retired cop, I look at Dean and say to myself, "Sir, keep your hands where I can see then or you will be tazed!"...LOL
