Capitan Miniatures Gendarmerie a Cheval

My buddy coerced me into painting up several Capitan Miniatures Gendarmerie. Since he caught me in a moment of weakness, I went ahead and accepted his request. I basically gave them a quick block paint job with some highlighting on the coats and black areas, then a stain of Minwax. Here they are after a Dullcote that I should've waited a bit longer for the Minwax to dry.
They are somewhat charming figures, but to be honest the sculpting isn't on par with say, Perry or Victrix. Some of the details, particularly the equipment around the saddle area aren't as well defined as you would expect. That said, they present a nice overall look and paint up well enough. My buddy "graciously" said he'd paint the horses himself. As a team project, he actually said, "Come on, it'll be fun." Yeah, for him maybe. Tomorrow, I'll reward him with a small game of Black Powder; that is, after I finish a WAB Dark Ages Campaign game. As far as my dog goes, I think he is safe, thank God.

  1. Nice paintjob, I think they're quite a nice figure, are they compatible size wise with the likes of Perry and Victrix

  2. Thanks, Ray. Yes, they are definitely compatible size-wise with the two. I'd say 28mm for sure. BTW, I was just checking out your older post of RJW figures - amazing work! Best, Dean

  5. They have a wonderfully nostalgic appearance not unlike Bicorne Miniatures. Lovely job.

  6. Looking good, Dean.

They might not be Perrys, but I suppose the chance of the Perrys ever getting around to Gendarmerie is remote, and a man's got to take what he can get! Either that, or convert.

    Cheers, Simon

  9. Thanks for the interest and comments.

I have yet to see the horses in person myself, but from their website, look nicely sculpted. The only thing is the riders seem positioned too far back, but this could be the angle of the photo.
