Just need to finish the drummer - after I find a nice uniform. Thanks to the generous amount of flags Victrix supplies, this unit will have the one for the 2nd Line. Here they are less the command group, based on 40X40mm Litko plywood bases. Using some creative basing to raise their height a bit, they look okay next to the Perry guys on the far left in the photo. Victrix are a bit larger all around, but since they'll be in separate units, they should be fine.
Napoleonics have a lot of details to paint on the back of figures too - it's like painting twice as many Ancient figures.
Once I finish the other two OG units I'll finish painting & flocking all the bases - including the earlier ones with Victrix and Perry figs.
ADDENDUM: Painted the drummer with light blue coat and yellow facings - this combination was used for at least the 42nd Line.
Great Dean. Looking really nice.
ReplyDeleteThey look really great and so quickly!!

Thanks, Gents. I'm happy they're done and still have enough motivation to start on the next group - the 1815 guys. After that the plan, right now anyway, is to paint the mixed unit (of 1809 & 1815 leftovers) as Swiss 4th Regt in red coat. Although, I was trying not to have any French in red coats to distinguish them against the British. Thanks so much again, Dean
ReplyDeleteExcellent painting, your really whizzing through your figs!!!!
ReplyDelete!!!! That´s an impressive line up. I know what you mean about "like painting twice as many ancients" but you´ve done a fine and fast job on them

As usually Dean, they look lovely!!

Beautiful. How did you make that flag?
ReplyDeleteI initially misread Ray's comment and at first thought he was accusing you of whizzing on your figs.
Have ever seen Michael Jackson's "The Whiz"? :)!
ReplyDeleteOh, and the flag is a spare from a Victrix set - it comes with about four flags - IIRC. Putting all to use; as well as the two that come with the Perry set. Dean
P.S. If you're asking about how to get the flag to curl - it's done while the watered down white glue is still drying. Carefully bend it the way you want - being mindful of the two sides staying lined up.
really really nice work you've done a great job and when the basing's finished you'll have an awesome unit there
ReplyDeleteVery nice Dean. I prefer the sculpting of the Perry miniatures to the OG ones, though.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Napolenics, they do take a whole lot of painting! I have learned to love the greatcoat. :-)
Simon
Thanks again, Gents.
ReplyDeleteSimon: I agree - I also like the more robust sculpting of Perrys over the OG. It was hard to make it out on the OG website, but figured I'd give them a try since I got the 40% off discount. They are sculpted by the same person who did (does?) Sash & Saber. Not bad sculpting, but rather on the more slender side (more realistic?). Anyway, they'll beef up my French battalions. Best, Dean
Hi Dean, the probably are more realistic, do look good...
ReplyDeleteCheers, Simon
