Along with a lone plastic Perry Rifleman, here are the KGL Light Infantry that came with the La Haye Sainte set, stained with a coat of brought-back-to-life-with-thinner Minwax Tudor Satin.
The lid of the can, which is less than a year old, appeared to be tight,so I was surprised to find it so thickened/hardened. I had to use a screw driver to punch through the dried top layer of the stain before adding thinner to it.
The figures prior to the stain with a basic, block paint job. I plan to base them two-figures per 40mm squares; mainly because they're skirmishers, and also because I have a few Litko 40mm square bases.
Anyway, just wanted to post an update, and thanks for stopping by and wishing you all happy painting and good gaming.
Lovely looking riflemen! Thinner based paints are a bit of a pain as they start settling out as soon as you open them, you almost need to use them up fast! You get a lovely finish in spite of all that!

Thanks, Iain. If I wasn't so cheap, I'd pick up a new can. I'll see how it turns out on the next batch of figures. Kindest regards, Dean

ReplyDeleteWays seem to wear out the can of Minwax before I make it completely through its contents. I have had the experience with punching through a thick cap of hardened stain on the top and adding thinner. For me, the stain is never the same after that.
Ah, so it's not just me. Agree also about it not being the same. It actually looked a bit more brown with the thinner. I'll see how the next batch of figures come out. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteStain/washes sure do make a difference. As I've said your a machine Dean, keep on keeping on!
