Just a quick update to show the basic color pattern - highlighting and decals still need to be added. This follows the color scheme of the famed Gulf Porsche 917s which dominated Le Mans in the early 1970's.
The 1:32nd scale Airfix Porsche 917 kit has been chopped and reconfigured to approximate the footprint of the GW Land Speeder. The crewmen, weapons and ancillary parts have been magnetized to allow the use of the Porsche model in friendly games with non-GW models. Conversely, the parts can be used on the proper-GW model for more model-restrictive games.
Here is the "regulation" GW Land Speeder.
All weapons are magnetized and interchangeable between the two models.
Here are the magnetized components off the models.
nice kit bash, love the color too.

Thank you all for the great comments; I'm encouraged to know that butchering the Porsche was worth it :)
ReplyDeleteThe 917 Land Speeder is the sole remaining of its kind, and actually piloted by non other than Steveonious McQueen himself back in the annals of time. It is only brought out on special occasions in honor of the Chapter founder.
Best, Dean
Excellent work, Dean! Your colors and conversion rock. Is there no limit to your ability to turn X into Y? ;-)
ReplyDeleteMonty, thank you for the kind words. It may only seem a hobby, but anything good that my hands may be able to produce are a blessing from God. Warm Regards, Dean
ReplyDeleteVery cool, love the magnetic weapons.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Scott! And I thought I had too many magnets when I first bought them. Best, Dean
