Since my gaming buddy, Pat L. (Socal Warhammer) had to cancel out of our planned practice game today - I ended up working on two units of Handgunners as well as two metal Master Engineers. I picked all of them up off of ebay - the two Engineers were the price of one of the current new resin/plastic models. The Handgunners were two separate buys, both for about a $1.00 per figure. They are the older models, which match the other infantry types already in the army. Anyway, here they are freshly coated with Minwax Tudor Satin stain.
The Master Engineer with the Hochland Long Rifle will be the Marksman for a unit of Talabecland Handgunners. The other Master Engineer with Repeater Handgun will be used to assist a Great Cannon crew. The Handgunners are painted up representing a unit each from Hochland and Talabecland. I'm still waiting on another ebay purchase - a bits lot with standards and musician parts. The photo below shows them with a basic block paint job. The Handgunners were base coated with a light brown to take care of much of their equipment.
Finally, here is a shot of a 1/72nd scale Revell Pirate Ship model that was on clearance for $4.99 at the local Michael's. I hope to use it as an Airship. Behind it is a Denny's kid's drink cup in the shape of a rocket. I hope to convert this into a zeppelin to carry the Airship. Although 1/72nd scale, the deck is large enough to fit several figures.
looking great you are growing a big empire army

They look good, great idea with the ship. Zvezda also makes one but I have no idea of its size.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, just the kind of Mad Labs stuff we've come to expect from the College of Engineers. I look forward to seeing more WIP shots!
ReplyDeleteWhat will it count as on the table top?
Thanks a lot for visiting the blog and also for the kind comments, Gentlemen.
ReplyDeleteWarm Regards, Dean
Well done Dean!

I could see where the ship project was heading straight away just from the photograph, very cool, looking forward to seeing what you cobble up Dean.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have the minwax technique down pat, perfect table top paint job. I'm really impressed with how it has come along.
That's a sweet idea with the ship. Well done Dean.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments, Gents. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read more about the airship, I think that promises to be a wonderful project in itself.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the airship develop as well. Great concept using very cheap components, which is always a great feeling. The gunners look cool, very colourful and mind me of a festival was ran into in Florence once when travelling through Italy.
ReplyDeleteI like the colour and the patterns you used on those figures. And an airship-looking forward to seeing that. I hope you will show us this build in a series of W.I.P.'s as it would be nice to see how you do it.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments and interest in the airship. I will definitely be putting some work into it soon. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving how your figures are turning out. I need to stop over thinking mine. Michael's you say? I looked for that model at Hobby Lobby and they didn't have it. I'll run by Michael's today.
ReplyDeleteWay to go on your ever growing and wonderful Empire army, Dean! An airship to top things off? I can't wait to see it. :-)
ReplyDeleteOOOh, the airship sounds exciting.
ReplyDeleteI like the older figs anyway. They have a lot more character than the current scuplts. You got lucky finding them at a decent price!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the kind words and interest in the Empire. I really appreciate them. Yes, I am now on the hook to complete this airship, must stay the course for this one. Best, Dean
