Just a quick workbench update - still waiting on a Perry order of Scots pikemen and command, but managed to finish the musketeers for the unit. Also started on the cavalry - 9 regiments of 12 figs each. 4 of these units will be repaints - including a cuirassier unit; and 2 units are mounted dragoons (the foot will be painted afterward).
The Scots figures were sprayed with Rustoleum flat gray primer and then the clothing areas dry-brushed with Vallejo Stonewall Grey. A Minwax stain was brushed on over after the rest of the stuff were painted - leather equipment and muskets, etc. Quite a quick and simple paint scheme. The new figures were sprayed with a flat brown primer - mainly to speed the painting of the horses. I may dry-brush some of the horses with a lighter brown; also will paint the manes and tails various colors. This site was created late in 2008, just a few years after first becoming involved in wargaming. As you can tell by the name, WAB was my introduction to this community. I appreciate the following and comments this blog receives, and give all thanks and credit to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It may seem odd that this blog appears to focus on the folly of mankind's continuous warfare, but I believe I can still enjoy this hobby so long as I put Him first in all I do. Maranatha!
Looks like a very effective painting method. The Scots look great.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Robert! I think with the Minwax Tudor stain over the gray gives a nice impression of "hodden" Grey. Best regards, Dean
DeleteSuper work on the Scots, Dean! Minwax stain is a great tool to have in the toolkit.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Jonathan. Yes, the stain really goes a long way. I end up throwing away about a 1/3 of the can due to it drying up before using it all. It's well worth it though for production line painting. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteAnother great batch of figures Dean.....Marston Moor beckons my friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Keith! Yes, definitely, it's kind of like the Waterloo for the Royalists. I suppose Naseby could also be it too, but this one started the downfall. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteAwesome work as always!
ReplyDeleteBest
Thanks a lot, Michal! Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteGreat work the Scots are very effective, looking forward to the cavalry all being painted up by next week !!!!!!!!😱
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt! I do want the cavalry done soon - not sure in a single week though! :) Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteQuite impressive speed and detail! Your recruiting of the era in the last few months is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joe! The funny thing is I had painted up a starter set and a few other boxes 2020 - and thought those would be enough for a trial game, but then somehow got ended up wanting a larger game to start with. We'll see how it goes on the table though. Kind regards, Dean
DeleteLooking good Dean!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks, Christopher! Just rank and file guys to fill up the table. Hope to spend more time and effort on command figures later. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteNice work so far Dean ! Looking forward to see them finished.
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Thank you very much, Mario! Yes, me too - the project is getting there though. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteNice going Dean!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike!
DeleteScots turned out well, I'll look forward to the cavalry.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly, Markus!
DeleteThe blue "hats" on the Scottish pikemen is very vivid. It's interesting to note that historical warfare in the West did not take camouflage seriously unlike the native tribes of the Americas.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kuan!
DeleteVery well done! Those Scots look the part
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Nick!
DeleteExcellent brushwork Dean.
