Here are the 7 new units of cavalry, 3 units of Parliamentarians and 4 units of Royalist - including a unit of Cuirassiers. With the 4 units painted in 2020, there are now 11 units of cavalry; not counting the 2 Dragoon units still to be painted as they fight more as dismounted troops than cavalry.
Most of the flags are from downloads off the Warlord Games site. The one for the Cuirassiers is from the Warlord kit, and is a conjectural one for a Royalist Cuirassier unit. The style of the period clothing, at least for rank and file, is pretty simple and paints up nicely. Specifically, there aren't any laces and buttons to worry about, as in later periods. This range of figures from Warlord Games has become one of my favorites - for variety of troops and also ease of painting. The clothing is colorful, but not complicated - so make for a nice look overall.Next up are the Perry Scots Covenanters to finish up that unit - then on to the Dragoons. After those, there are a couple of character figures for leaders and also the artillery. This site was created late in 2008, just a few years after first becoming involved in wargaming. As you can tell by the name, WAB was my introduction to this community. I appreciate the following and comments this blog receives, and give all thanks and credit to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It may seem odd that this blog appears to focus on the folly of mankind's continuous warfare, but I believe I can still enjoy this hobby so long as I put Him first in all I do. Maranatha!

My goodness, Dean. You do nothing by half measure. This is an absolutely stunning display of cavalry. How long did all of this cavalry take to paint?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jonathan. I think a couple of weeks to finish them all - however, about half were repaints/touch ups. So, those were already put together and had a basic paint base. That sped things up. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteFantastic ECW cavalry Dean, painted in no time at all!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike! I should be good for cavalry now. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteWow, most impressive and beautiful cavalry!

DeleteOh, awesome looking units Dean!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Michal! Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteAs others have said Dean a very impressive collection. No stopping you now and looking forward to seeing them in battle 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt. From what I've read so far, there wasn't much artillery action going on at Marston Moor, but since my buddy also threw in a lot of cannon, I think I'll end up repainting and basing the too. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteThey are outstanding, as is the speed with which you painted them - I know we all keep saying the same thing, Dean, but its just so incredible - I think I have probably painted half a dozen figures or less in the time you have spent on this huge cavalry force - and they still look really good too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the kind words as always, Keith - much appreciated! Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteSuch splendidly painted figures in such a short time is awesome!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you very much, Iain! Inching closer to the battlefield! Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteAwesome work Dean ! Bravo !
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Thank you so much, Mario! Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteAwesome job, Dean! I'm amazed at your painting speed!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Sergey. These were painted using a speed method of block painting followed by staining - only minor touching up of flesh and metal areas with ink washes afterwards. Up close they aren't very detailed, but the method works great for blocks of troops like these are. Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteThat's an impressive amount of cavalry Dean!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
Thanks, Christopher. Yes, way more than I have for any particular Napoleonic army I have. It seems the cavalry was as numerous as foot a some of the battles during the ECW, so should they should be useful for gaming. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteTerrific work Dean!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Ray! Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteVery, very impressing! mass 28 mm looks incredible!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, Vladimir. I agree, cavalry en masse looks nice. Warmest regards, Dean
DeleteI must have said it a million times Dean but your output rate is simply awesome, retouching or not.
ReplyDeleteI would also like to put in a generic question. Since yesterday I am unable to post blog comments from my ipad and iphone. This and the comment above I had to post on my laptop. Does anyone else have the same issue?
DeleteThanks a lot for the very kind words again, Mike. As for the posting issues, I've had different issues using my Samsung Galaxy 10 phone, but not posting issues you're having. And thanks for the extra effort for the comment here! :) Kindest regards, Dean
DeleteVery impressive in bioth output and quality, Dean. Horse probably made up roughly 1/3 of most ECW armies.
ReplyDeleteI have Covenanters on the painting table now myself!
Thanks, Peter! Yes, lots of cavalry action - should make for good gaming. And, I need to finish up the pike and command for the Scots Covenanters too. Kind regards, Dean
DeleteThere is so much detail on show here ... simply brilliant painting!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, Kuan!
DeleteThis is some fantastic painted cavalry! Very inspirational!
