It does, I believe, "clean up" loose-end/gray areas. Also, WAB guys generally frowned on the "magic" stuff in the fantasy rules. So, your son should have no problem playing the rules - unless he enjoys the fantasy portion more. I think it's reason enough for you to build a Roman army.
